I’ve been testing the top-ranked heat protectants for a few weeks. There were a lot of products so writing reliable reviews took a lot of time. Finally I know the winner which will stay with me for longer. You’ll also see if I like all of the tested products. Enjoy reading!
How do I use my heat protectants?
I use them on dry or wet hair. Most such products come with spray applicators so we simply press them a few times and that’s all. I try to avoid the scalp area because it’s too gentle for such cosmetics. I put more product on the ends which are exposed to damage the most. Once it’s applied, I wait for a few minutes so it can sink in and then move on to styling.
Top-Rated Heat Protectant Sprays for Hair
Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray
website: nanoil.co.uk
When it comes to Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray, it proves a great success, and actually goes beyond my expectations. I tried it in different situations and always worked wonders. It really keeps the hair safe while flat-ironing or curling because it protects from 430℉/220℃. That’s impressive. I’d been seeking such a gem. When using it before blow-drying, I think my hair dries faster, which is great. I also like to apply it before making braids or fancy styles because it makes them last for longer.
No matter how I do my hair, this spray always leaves it shiny, smooth and manageable. It’s thanks to silk proteins which beautify as well as revitalize the hair. An extra benefit: my hair smells wonderful because the spray has an amazing scent.
The bottle has a cool applicator – just a few sprays are enough for a single use. Given that a little goes a long way and it’s 200 ml, this product will last me a long time for sure.
Kevin Murphy Ever Smooth Spray
Here’s another product which goes well with my hairdo. I just wish it was budget-friendly too… Kevin Murphy Ever Smooth Spray is one of the most expensive items on my list but it definitely fulfils its purpose. The bottle design is characteristic for the brand; it’s 150ml and you shouldn’t expect it will last you long. When it comes to effects, this product is a multitasker too. I use it before blow-drying, flat-ironing and creating different hairstyles. Apart from heat protection, it ensures more volume and gloss in hair. It’s also great for taming frizz. If your budget gets by, then I recommend trying it. Naturally you can try cheaper products like Nanoil which work well or even better.
CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray
It’s time for the biggest spray in my ranking – it has 237 ml. A nice surprise, just like the price. I like to use CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray before flat-ironing because it has a strong smoothing effect. However, it’s not the effect I want when building volume or curling the hair – the hair roots fall flat. As far as other effects go, this product is good at protecting against heat and delivers nice gloss. You just need to be careful while applying it because one spray too many and you’ll be left with heavy hair – I was but then I figured the right amount. I think it’s worth trying, especially given the price. I mostly recommend it for those who use a flat-iron every day. If you need a spray for blow-drying or curling, then I think Nanoil or Kevin Murphy is a better choice.
Moroccanoil Color Complete Spray
Before getting into details, I should say you can skip it if you haven’t got colored hair. Moroccanoil offers a terrific spray but it’s designed for color-treated hairdos. I agree with the manufacturer – the formula may be too rich for natural hair. It’s okay on my bleached tresses. Reviving the color and extending its life is the main job of this product. Apart from that, it replenishes moisture which is essential for colored hair. It also protects from heat but I think it’s less effective than the above products. That’s why it acts as an addition to my styling routine, for heat protection I choose a more effective spray. All in all, it’s a really cool product for colored hair and that’s why I put it on the list.
As you can see my list of top heat protectants includes some products which go well with any hair. To me, Nanoil produces the best effects and it’ll definitely stay in my bathroom. I recommend CHI for straightening, and Moroccanoil for colored hair (in other cases, it’s not the best choice).
